Carindale is a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, located 10 kilometres  east of the Brisbane CBD. It is part of the popular 4152 postcode which includes Carina, Carina Heights and Camp Hill and borders Belmont, Mackenzie, Mansfield, Mount Gravatt East, and Tingalpa.

It is the best known of the suburbs in the postcode but was originally the name of a housing estate constructed in 1976. It separated from Belmont in 1980 with the name a combination of “Carin” from the neighbouring suburb of Carina and “dale” meaning valley.

First settled by Europeans in the 1850s, the focus was on timber and agriculture and there are still historical remnants in the area.

Westfield Carindale is one of the most popular shopping centres in South East Queensland with major retailers David  Jones, Myer, Woolworths, Coles, Target, K-Mart, Aldi, IGA, along with Government Agencies (Medicare & Centrelink), banks, cinemas, restaurants and well over 200 individual shop(public and private) and BCC library.

The area has excellent schools (see links below), sporting facilities and parks including Pacific Golf Course and Bulimba Creek Reserve.

Carindale has easy access to the Gateway Motorway, providing access to the airport, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. Public  transport is excellent with a major bus interchange at the Carindale Shopping Centre. Travelling time to the city via express bus is approximately 20 minutes.

Currently Carindale is represented by Ross Vasta, Steve Minnikin, and Adrian Schrinner at the federal, state, and local levels respectively.

Demographics

In the 2016 census, Carindale recorded a population of 15,740 people, 51.4% female and 48.6% male.

The median age of the Carindale population was 42 years of age, 4 years above the Australian median.

65.3% of people living in Carindale were born in Australia, compared to the national average of 66.7%; the next most common countries of birth were New Zealand 3.5%, England 3.2%, China 2.8%, South Africa 2.4%, India 1.7%.

71.5% of people spoke only English at home; the next most popular languages were Mandarin 4.2%, Greek 3.6%, Cantonese 3.3%, Italian 1.7%, 1.1% Afrikaans.

According to the 2016 census, Carindale includes the largest Greek Australian community of any suburb in Queensland, numbering 746 individuals and making up 4.7% of the suburb’s population.
